Tropical Storm Helene formed Tuesday morning and is projected to strengthen into a hurricane, potentially bringing heavy rain and strong winds to the Carolinas later this week.

As of 11 a.m., the storm’s winds have increased to 45 miles per hour, with pressure continuing to drop. It is expected to reach hurricane status by Wednesday and could make landfall as a major hurricane on Thursday.

Today’s Weather: Expect overcast skies and humid conditions, with afternoon temperatures climbing into the low to mid-80s. Scattered thunderstorms may develop in the afternoon and evening, with some storms potentially heavy enough to cause localized flooding.

Tropical Update: A major hurricane is forecasted to impact Florida later this week.

Late Week Outlook: Rain and gusty winds are expected from Thursday afternoon through Friday morning.
