In Concord’s Logan neighborhood, home to the city’s largest and oldest Black community, the homeownership rate has long been below 40%. When housing nonprofit WeBuild Concord learned of this statistic in 2022, they committed to addressing the issue, according to CEO Patrick Graham. Their goal was to revitalize the area in a way that would help long-term residents avoid displacement, especially as Concord rapidly grows into one of North Carolina’s fastest-expanding cities.

A key part of that revitalization effort is now complete. On Wednesday, Logan residents and WeBuild Concord will celebrate the completion of the Lincoln Street Townhome project—a development of 26 mixed-income homes. The new homes, which are available for sale, will be offered at a range of prices: some will be affordable, others will be market rate, and some will feature a lease-to-own option, creating a pathway to homeownership for future buyers.

This project marks an important step in ensuring that Logan’s residents have access to affordable housing opportunities in the face of a changing urban landscape.
