Man Charged with Murder,Girlfriend’s Body found Behind Wall

Authorities in Maryland have uncovered the remains of a missing mother, hidden behind a newly constructed wall in her boyfriend’s home. The man, identified as 30-year-old Devontae Gray, is now facing charges of first-degree murder in connection with her death.

Alexis Schuler, 29, a mother of three, was last seen on January 10 in Washington, D.C., but wasn’t reported missing until January 16. By that time, authorities say Gray had already murdered Schuler, shooting her during what detectives believe was a dispute between the two. He then concealed her body inside a plastic storage bin, encasing it in cinder blocks and concrete, according to court documents.

Gray reportedly hid the body beneath a stairway behind a newly built wall constructed from lumber, drywall, and faux brick in his Capitol Heights, Maryland, home. This makeshift tomb remained undetected until investigators discovered it during their search.

Gray, who is the father of one of Schuler’s children and had an on-and-off relationship with her, has a known history of domestic violence. On January 9, just a day before Schuler went missing, Gray called police, claiming he feared for his life and might shoot her if she attempted to enter his home.

Schuler’s cousin, Derrick Felder, has since spoken out, calling attention to the dangers of domestic violence. “Alexis’ story is a painful reminder this is not what love looks like,” he said. “Someone who truly loves you would never do what Devontae Gray did to her. Please take domestic violence seriously.”

Devontae Gray has been taken into custody and, according to reports, has confessed to the crime. He now faces charges of first-degree murder and other related offenses.
